I met Bill through a Cooperative Baptist Fellowship cohort in 2010 while serving a small Baptist church in East Tennessee. Two years later I was burned out on vocational ministry and wondering if I had somehow missed God’s call on my life. I was visiting my mother on a hot June afternoon when my cell phone rang and it was Bill Shiell on the other end asking if I would be interested in a part-time youth minister position alongside him at First Baptist Knoxville. I was hesitant at first because I hadn’t been in youth ministry in several years, but Bill convinced me all would be well. And it was. Working and worshiping alongside Bill for nearly a year not only reaffirmed my call to ministry, but provided me invaluable learned experience that I still reference today. I do not say this lightly, but if it had not been for Bill Shiell and his grace extended to me at a time I needed it most, I probably would not be in full time ministry today. Rev.
